When it gets colder outside that is usually around the same time your heating bills start going up and unless you get your energy or heating through places like http://www.newyorkenergyrates.com/ you could really be paying through the nose every time the winter months roll around. So what do you do? How do you maintain your frugal lifestyle during those chilling winter months and cut back on the heat? There are a few things you can do to offset the discomfort and I have created a small list to help you through the colder times. Some of these tips might require a change or two in your lifestyle or even an investment but compared to how much you will save on heating in the long run, it’s worth the price.

1. Dress Up In Layers
Got some sweatshirts or long-sleeve shirts you can wear over your lighter clothes? Put them on. Got some extra blankets or quilts, throw them on the bed. More layers mean more of your body heat being conserved.

2. Get Some Better Curtains
Heavier curtains can help block any particularly nasty drafts during the colder season.

3. Get Some Better Windows
While this may seem like quite the investment, you can never put a price too high on great quality windows. Better windows also help keep the heat in the house without letting too much cold air in.

If you are looking for a way to save money there is one rule that you must always follow which is don’t buy it if you can’t pay cash. Many times people use their credit cards freely, and forget that they have to pay this back. If you are shopping and want something you do not have enough money for, the smartest thing to do is walk away. When you charge an item on a credit card you are taking the chance of putting yourself further into debt. If you do not have the cash to pay for it now, you may not have the cash to pay for it later. This usually means that you will be charged interest over time and that small item will become very expensive. If you cannot follow the rule of only buying when you have cash, try to leave your credit cards at home. This will ensure you that if you do not need it, and cannot afford it, it will not be coming home with you. This is one quick way to slow your debt down and get your finances back in order. The simple rule of only buying when you have cash will surely get you out of the debt that you are in.

While purchasing your groceries and household products coupons are often a great way to save money. However, there are some instances where it wouldn’t be beneficial to buy the product which you have a coupon for.

One such situation where it wouldn’t be advisable to purchase a product even if you have a coupon would be if you don’t truly have a need or use for the product. Coupons are meant to save money and if you are only purchasing the item to be able to save what the coupon allows you, are you really saving any money at all?

Another situation where you wouldn’t buy the product with a coupon would be if the store brand is cheaper. In most cases the store brand of a product is the same quality of the name brand item and is often cheaper even if you have a coupon for the same product. Unless you absolutely won’t budge on purchasing the name brand product, don’t buy the product you have the coupon for.

The last situation where it wouldn’t be wise to buy the product you have the coupon for would be if you already have enough of the product at home. While buying items at a discount is always nice, there is such a thing as buying too much of an item.

Loose change, especially silver, can certainly add up fast. Saving your loose change can allow you to save up for your next big purchase, Christmas gifts, or even a vacation. There are several ways to get the most out of your loose change savings account.

Try to pay with cash whenever possible. Using your debit card all of the time will not allow your change pile to grow very quickly. Once you get home with change, deposit into any bucket or bowl, and leave it be while it continues to grow. You may want to sort change into different containers, as this will make for easy rolling when it comes time to trade it for dollars.

Those grocery store change machines may be tempting, but there is a fee for exchanging your coins for dollars when you use them. Consider rolling the change yourself, and then taking it to your bank. If you have children that are old enough to count, you can let them help you with this task.

You will be amazed at how fast loose change can add up. People have been able to purchase major items, even homes, with the loose change they saved over the years. Consider your change to be yet another savings account, and when the time comes to spend it, you will be glad you did.
